Prepare for Your Visit
A little preparation goes a long way in making your child's haircut experience a success.
Before Your Visit
Talk About It
Use simple, positive language to describe the visit. 'We're going to see Carla. She's really nice and will help make your hair look great!'
Use Social Stories
Visual stories showing step-by-step what will happen can reduce anxiety. We can provide a custom social story for your child.
Practice at Home
Play 'hair salon' with a doll or stuffed animal. Let your child use a spray bottle, comb, and pretend scissors to build familiarity.
Plan a Reward
Having something fun planned after the visit gives your child something positive to look forward to.
Time It Right
Schedule during your child's best time of day. Avoid booking when they're typically tired, hungry, or overstimulated.
Stay Calm
Children pick up on our energy. If you're relaxed and positive, they're more likely to feel the same way.

Day-Of Tips
Dress Comfortably
Loose, comfortable clothing works best. Avoid turtlenecks or anything that might be hard to brush hair off of.
Arrive a Few Minutes Early
This gives your child time to transition and explore the space before we start.
Manage Expectations
It's okay if we don't get a 'perfect' haircut the first time. Progress is more important than perfection.
Communicate Needs
Let us know about any changes since your intake form — bad day, new triggers, or things that have been working well.
